Does anyone out there in the Listmaker readership watch the Amazing Race? This show keeps gaining momentum over the course of five seasons so I decided to give it a chance last night for the Season 6 premeire. My first impression- What the fuck? Is there anything to this show other than people running around and screaming at each other? Not that that can't be entertaining but I was completely bored for most of it. Maybe the two hour runnning time wasn't such a good idea. In fact, a devoted follower of the show at work told me that she didn't even watch all two hours last night. I ended up fast forwarding a good portion of the last hour only to find the two Brooklyn Jews were eliminated. I guess we control Hollywood and the World Bank, but have yet to find our niche in the reality show universe.
So I think that I want to never ever watch this show again. But then I start thinking about some of the crazy characters on the show and how refreshing it is to see such crazy people on TV. All other reality show contestants seem so bland compared to these wackos. I mean, where else can you watch a
married couple of professional wrestlers compete for a million bucks?

Should I keep watching? Who has any insight into this strange show?

The Wife loves that show...I tolerate it......LOST BABY LOST!
i watched it last night before going to bed. my pulse was still racing when i woke up. the amazing race is just "go, go, go!" tv has never been more mindless and thrilling.

i fall squarely in the middle of chris and marc. i more than tolerate it yet my pulse wasn't really racing. yes, the two hour running time was a bit much but you're right, it is fun to watch crazy people on teevee. i realised during the show that i just love watching silly games and i also love watching petty bickering and people with serious social issues and on the amazing race i get both.
by the way, once those brooklyn guys decided to do the ice search i knew they had no chance. i look forward to more spontaneous wrestling on glaciars and jonathan bluehair's shrill outbursts for weeks to come.
If it was called "My Big Fat Obnoxious Amazing Race" and featured reality show types being hit in the face with octopusses (octopi?) with the prospect of them not winning a FRIGGING PENNY, then I'd watch.
My favorite show of the moment is the opening segement of Monday Night Football. Apparently, to top off the Terrell Owens/Desperate Housewives hoopla next week Tom Brady will seduce a tearful Dick Vermeil.
I've been a fan since partway through Season 3. Every season premiere episode is more frantic than the normal episodes, because it takes a while for everyone to get their airport-and-navigating game on.
Also, the chaff has to be weeded out. Pleasures to watch out for: funny edits like one of the generic models teams bragging about what experienced travelers they are, and then they approach an Air Canada counter to ask about flights to Iceland and are told "We got to Canada." As in, "duh, the big red maple leaf not a big enough clue for you, chief?"
It does seem we have way more generic models and manic wackos this season. It almost makes me miss last season's most irritating guy, Colin.

I love that show, but Jennifer won't let me watch it. Instead, we watched a fucking amazing episode of Nova about the real Allied POWs on whom "The Great Escape" was based. Truly amazing. After the Nazis discover the tunnels, they send one of the guys to the Saxenhausen death camp....and he tunnels out of there too!! Try to watch it if you ever see it listed again.
chris, the last two episodes of lost have been great. color me converted.
dave, i dvred that nova episode but haven't watched it yet.
i feel like i watch a fair share of TV, but i have no idea what you guys are talking about for the most part. Tom Brady and Dick Vermeil, though - that's funny.
