A Young Boy in Brooklyn

An Indie Rock Icon

Hello Mr. Soldier!

The New York Sharpie settles down in Maryland.

Who's that brat?

Visiting my uncle and aunt at Oxford, late 70's.

I'll miss you Grandpa.

That was so very nice.
What a blessing your grandfather was to you and what a blessing you were to him.

well, you've made me a little misty-eyed at work this morning. i don't think i ever had the pleasure of meeting him, but i always liked that we shared a birthday. we'll do a little extra celebrating for him this year.

A mighty fine looking character right from the start. He looks like a grandpa should, well turned out and kind.
As he was a one time indie icon perhaps you might consider the 'Badly Drawn Boy' lyric,
"to live in the hearts of those that you loved is not to die".
Thoughts and peace.
Bowles.

As we Quakers say, I have been holding you and your family in the light.

Between the two of us, Wes and I have lost three grandparents in the last 18 months and it just...blows. There's really nothing more to be said.

And I won't hold you accountable for my current weeping, since I have been pointing out that it is an incredibly frequent occurrence lately. But this was incredibly moving and a lovely tribute.

Thank you everybody for your condolences. He really meant a lot to so many people. It is only now really beginning to hit me that he is gone.

Eileen, I wish I had more pictures. We should get together sometime and look through all the old pictures and old slides that my grandma has.

Daniel,

Great photo essay. The reaction from your blogmates shows how beautifully Grandpa is communicated from your heart.

Hi Dan...thank you for this. Makes the miles between us seem shorter. The pictures make me smile and weep at the same time. He is so missed already, but had such an impact that he will never be forgotten
