The throwing arm is swung right back in order to create a high arc trajectory, thus enabling a looping yet punishing impact form above. This is in contrast to the common 'sniper' mode which is used for close quarters combat. Besides which your highly flattering picture rather reminds me of someone being shot.

Bowles is more of a tosser than a thrower.
