Tossed Bat

Last Thursday, I went to an afternoon Mets' game. Near the end of the game, an interesting thing happened. Phillies' hitter Jason Michaels threw his bat as he hit a groundball. The bat almost hit a couple of Mets who were standing on the upper steps of the dugout. As Michaels ran to first, one of the Mets picked up the bat, tossed it over his shoulder and down the steps toward the clubhouse. Moments later, the poor Phillies’ batboy came over to retrieve the bat but the Mets wouldn’t let him in to get it. I guess they told him that he could get it after the game.

He sat by the Mets’ batboy for a few minutes before going back to his place on the Phillies’ side. As soon as the game ended and the Mets were all on the field shaking hands, the batboy made a run for it to the Mets’ dugout. Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t find the bat because it must have really been thrown quite a ways down the tunnel. He kept walking around looking for it while picking up different bats to inspect to see if the bat belonged to Michaels. Finally, he spotted it right as the Mets started swarming him to head down the steps to the clubhouse. He had to push through them to find his way out. A few of them who weren’t privy to why he was there seemed to be giving him strange looks. Ah, multi-millionaires and the pranks they play on poor 15 year-olds. God Bless America!

I don't think this is the right bat.

Hmmm .... which is the correct bat?

Correct bat in hand, the batboy makes his way out of enemy territory.

Must get out!
