First Day Down, Many More to Follow

Youthlarge wrote, "also, i would like to see a photo of my handiwork, please."

Yes, she did a lovely job on the calendar. Now that Maestra has taken off for the greener pastures of the 1st grade and taken her magic markers with her, Youthlarge has picked up the artistic slack.

Yesterday's highlights --

My favorite student from last year brought me a gift. At the end of the day, I opened it -- it was a new copy of The BFG, a book that I read to my class last year. She inscribed in bright magic marker that easily bled through the front cover with the advice of, "stay you self."

Earlier in the day, I was having the kids generate different topics for journal entries. Each line on each student's paper was supposed to be a different idea. Sassy New Favorite said, "I have an idea to write -- My best friend, my teacher." I played dumb and responded, "Ok, great, make sure to write that on two lines. One will be my best friend and one will be my teacher." She didn't want to come out and directly state what she was implying but did say, "Okay, my best friend, my teacher" and then wrote it on one line.

Bratty Blonde Boy decided to write "Cheese" on the nametag as his name that he proudly displayed on his chest. Much like Dolph Lundgren, I thought, "I will break you."

Your second grade antics don't play well here on the big stage, bucko.

Looks like it's time to put the comment security feature on, like Maestra.

I love trying to figure out who you're talking about! It's a great new game!

Break the Cheese kid. I can see you now, flexing your moustache like the teacher in "The Wall"

I know exactly who "cheese boy" is. You would have loved his expression when I assigned his seat (in the far corner of my lab.)

I am more than a little impressed by your colorful, inviting and organized classroom - especially the artfully designed calender! You are so lucky to have such a devoted and artistic helpmate. I wish I had known her when I was teaching! I also enjoyed reading about your new kids and have a vivid image of them already. By the way. I have an extensive collection of magic markers of every color imaginable that you are welcome to have!

I like the three colour limit; it forces one to ponder combinations not normally found outside a cathode ray tube. Nice work, Youthlarge. Now I want to see the portraits of Listmaker as rendered by his students.
