i thought talking heads was great the first time around, this stuff doesn't even skip a generation anymore. david byrne should find that band and beat them up, and collect royalties.

1. Have you listened to Listmaker 2? Yes

2. What are some of your favorite songs? Moss Trumpeter, Louisiana, White Collar Boy, Balloon Song and "Joe Simon" (come admit it, that's really Eddie Murray, isn't it?) singing Your Time To Cry.

3. What songs do you hate? And please describe your hatred. Calexio/iron & Wine- sounds like Tom Petty after sucking helium.

4. Who would you like to see on the cover of Listmaker 3? Stone Groove kissing Dolly Madison

5. Predictions on who might show up on Listmaker 3? William Shatner sings the Beatles, Patrick Stewart sings Radiohead, Scott Bacula sings Fall Out Boy.

6. Do you realize how much work Youthlarge does for Listmaker? CDs and in general? (Youthlarge made me include this question.)She is the bun to your hot dog. In retrospect, that reads much ruder that I intended. I mean, she completes you; otherwise you would be a nervouser wreck.

7. Any other comments? I feel honored just to be on the list, intimidated about having you hear whatever I compile for the wedding ambience, and happy with having received 25 out of 40; not too high up, not an afterthought.

you totally misrepresented me with question 6. it's all listmaker, listmaker, listmaker. i'm the little elf in the workshop.

Stone Groove should be on the cover. All of the other questions are to hard for me.

mactechwitch said...

I'm with Stone Groove on this one. The questions are too hard and I'd like to see him on the next cover.

I listened to this collection on my trip up and down I 25 in New Mexico last month. The scenery is surprising, unexpected but quickly becomes forgettable. That's how I felt about the music on L2.

1. Have you listened to Listmaker 2?
Yes. Last night, after Listmaker badgered me into it. No, seriously, I had forgotten about the comp until he reminded me. I listened to it while I half-organized my closet.

2. What are some of your favorite songs?
Waylon Jennings, Crow Dance, YYT, B&S. But, damn, when did I get so old? I'm with Chris Larry on this one. I'm just not getting into any of these new bands that are getting bandied about on the blogs these days.

3. What songs do you hate? And please describe your hatred.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Dude's voice is annoying, yo.

4. Who would you like to see on the cover of Listmaker 3?
1. Mo Kin or Washcloth. Save Stone Groove for a special-occasion LmP.

5. Predictions on what bands/artists might show up on Listmaker 3?
Mo Kin

6. Do you realize how much work Youthlarge does for Listmaker? CDs and in general? (Youthlarge made me include this question.)
I didn't. I just figured she was always too sick.

7. Any other comments?
"Listmaker Presents: Songs for Bocce, Volume 1." I believe I have a partial list of "roll" themed songs to get you started.

Listmaker said...

wow, no clap your hands love at all. i still like that record but that dude is terribly pretentious.

mactechwitch, the cd was completely forgettable? ouch.

China-Latina Chowhound said...

1. Have you listened to Listmaker 2?
A Yes AND C I already lost it. I have faith that I will find it agian really soon though. Not a reflection of the comp - I'm just THAT messy.

2. What are some of your favorite songs?
Randy Newman, Deerhoof and Waylon Jennings. Oh, and the Everly Bros.

3. What songs do you hate? And please describe your hatred.
On priciple, I hate ALL Cat Power songs, mainly because I just hate her. Why? Because I think one of her bandmates stole my Epiphone Thunderbird bass back in 1996 when my band played on the same bill as her. Also, why does she always have to cry?

4. Who would you like to see on the cover of Listmaker 3?
D Al Gore. I'm all about him in 2008.

5. Predictions on what bands/artists might show up on Listmaker 3?
Elton John and Kiki Dee

6. Do you realize how much work Youthlarge does for Listmaker? CDs and in general? (Youthlarge made me include this question.)
I know SHR is quite good with silk-screening (or just screening?) and those types of things. I think she might have recommended a good hand lotion once when your hands were dry.

7. Any other comments?
While Listmaker 2 was enjoyable, it just was not as good as Listmaker 1. The National song changed my life it was so good, M. Ward breaks my heart every time and that Panda (is that even right?) song is amazing.

bobby blue bland, new - belle & sebastion and cat power

3. What songs do you hate? And please describe your hatred. i hated
almost all of the rest because eddie was on the cover and eddie too
would've hated almost all of this.

4. Who would you like to see on the cover of Listmaker 3? you first
need to re-call listmaker 2 and re-issue it with a copy of a jim palmer
jockey briefs ad on the cover which would be much more appropriate for
the songs on listmaker 2. then eddie murray could be on the cover of
listmaker 3, with songs that he would actually listen to.

5. Predictions on what bands/artists might show up on Listmaker 3? the
switchhitters, the scufflers, kiko garcia band, the early weavers.

6. Do you realize how much work Youthlarge does for Listmaker? CDs and

1. Have you listened to Listmaker 2?

hell yeah

2. What are some of your favorite songs?

i, for one, liked the clap your hands say yeah song. i'd avoided them because i had heard so freaking much about them i was already tired of them, but then i heard this and i felt all better. it is, in fact, love. the maximo park was delightful, too. basically, though, i liked most everything.

3. What songs do you hate? And please describe your hatred.

not so much hate, but i didn't really like the amadou & miriam bit.

4. Who would you like to see on the cover of Listmaker 3?

all of the above.

5. Predictions on what bands/artists might show up on Listmaker 3?

with a list like this one, there's no telling.

6. Do you realize how much work Youthlarge does for Listmaker? CDs and in general? (Youthlarge made me include this question.)

um, yeah. she does it all, right?

7. Any other comments?

nope

1. Have you listened to Listmaker 2?
A Yes

2. What are some of your favorite songs?
As I said to you before, it's become a bit of a soundtrack for me. I listen to it far too often.
Maximo Park, Yura Yura Teikoku, Magnolia Elec. Co., Andrew Bird, Young People, Deerhoof, Calexico + I&W, Nathaniel Meyer,Amadou & Mariam
3. What songs do you hate? And please describe your hatred. Nothing. Didn't even hate Clap You Hands, just got bored with the guys voice. Also, love E. Cotton, but I listen to her a lot anyway.

4. Who would you like to see on the cover of Listmaker 3?
The Dolly Madison comment made me think Little Debbie, definitely.

5. Predictions on what bands/artists might show up on Listmaker 3?
That spoils all the fun. I'll take what you're dishing up and like it (or not).

6. Do you realize how much work Youthlarge does for Listmaker? CDs and in general? (Youthlarge made me include this question.)
I had my suspicions.

7. Any other comments?
I'm really happy about #2. I went back to see if #1 could have such a hold on me, but no such luck.

1. Have you listened to Listmaker 2?
A Yes

2. What are some of your favorite songs? Joe Simon, Sparrow, Nate Mayer, Sharon Jones

3. What songs do you hate? And please describe your hatred. I'm a little embarrassed to say it, but every time I hear Randy Newman sing my mind wanders to think about which animated character is supposed to be singing. Either that or the "I Love LA" video from the 80s with random celebrities shouting "We Love It!" It's distracting (in my own mind).

4. Who would you like to see on the cover of Listmaker 3? The three of them, arm in arm.

5. Predictions on what bands/artists might show up on Listmaker 3? I know better than to guess.

6. Do you realize how much work Youthlarge does for Listmaker? CDs and in general? (Youthlarge made me include this question.) I know better than to guess here too.

7. Any other comments? Overall, I'm pleased to be a subscriber. One suggestion: I'm as guilty of this as anyone, but maybe for the next one just use a dozen or so songs instead of filling the disc - there are almost too many on here to keep track of.

youthlarge said...

mas - there's no way DMR will acquiesce to #7. dude is fanatical about using every second on a disc.

mactechwitch said...

Oh I'm in trouble now.
I'll never get my hands on Listmaker3.

When I said Listmaker2 was forgettable that was too harsh. I just meant I forgot it. Things don't stick as well as they used to with me.

Anyway you are the person who intoduced me to Beulah, M.Ward, Calexico and little gems like Dance Music by the Mountain Goats which I still listen to all the time.

1. Have you listened to Listmaker 2?
A Yes
C I already lost it.
I totally came home today intending to do this because I have been so productive all day I was excited to finally get this homework done, too. Alas, Wes put it somewhere, as he is wont to do. So it will have to be from memory and that just isn't as good. I might have to come back and correct myself later. But I wanted credit for my good intentions.

2. What are some of your favorite songs? I already told you that the Zora song was one I remember from high school so that was awesome. I really liked the CYHSY song, which figures since most of the cool kids here hated it. That's the kind of girl I am. I always love Belle & Sebastian. There were a couple of others I really liked. I'll have to get back to you when Wes comes home and returns my stuff from the hiding places he likes to call "clean."

3. What songs do you hate? And please describe your hatred.
I hate all country things, in general. This is because of my Arizona roots and the fact that I was raised around entirely too much country and there is nothing at all appealing about it to me and it makes me feel like I am trapped in a car with my babysitter and unable to change the station and, maybe, that the air conditioning is broken and it is a long way home. That said, some of the new country/rock stuff like that new thing by the Rilo Kiley girl can be OK. But only in small doses.

4. Who would you like to see on the cover of Listmaker 3?
my travel companion
B Chewbacca

5. Predictions on what bands/artists might show up on Listmaker 3?
God only knows. Count me as one of those who are too old to understand this newfangled music.

6. Do you realize how much work Youthlarge does for Listmaker? CDs and in general? (Youthlarge made me include this question.)
Indeed. It is similar to the amount Wes does for me.

7. Any other comments?
The Mountain Goats, "This Year" is one of Wes' and my favorites and we've been listening to it all last year AND this one and we're still just trying to make it through if it kills us. Explain.

1. Have you listened to Listmaker 2?
A. Yes and D. Let someone borrow it.

2. What are some of your favorite songs?
Gram Parsons and Emmylou; Calexico/Iron & Wine; Elizabeth Cotton; Belle & Sebastian; Andrew Bird; Cat Power; others that I can't remember b/c I don't have the disc anymore

3. What songs do you hate? And please describe your hatred.
No hate on my part. I don't like to be negative.

4. Who would you like to see on the cover of Listmaker 3?

C James Madison

5. Predictions on what bands/artists might show up on Listmaker 3?
Predict? no way.

6. Do you realize how much work Youthlarge does for Listmaker? CDs and in general? (Youthlarge made me include this question.)

Of course! She deserves all the cool t-shirts and bacon you can afford.

7. Any other comments?
I'd like an accompanying statement by the Listmaker on volume 3 so we can read about what unifying theme or motivation lies behind the making of said collection. It will help me contextualize the piece within his body of work--mix tapes/cds, blogs, and other various lists (help me--I've been in school too long. but yes, this is a serious suggestion).

Listmaker said...

hmmm, i'll think about that planbreaker.
but my music writing on my blog is kind of that. other than that, it would just be, i like this song. but still, i'll think about it.

Dan,

1. A - Yes, I have listened to it.

2. Some of my favorites: "Your Time To Cry", "A History of Lovers", "Shake Sugaree", "Kyuusho, "Djanfa", "Tic Motion", "Northstar Blues", "I'll take Care of You", "Sweep out the Ashes".

3. Hate is a strong word, Daniel. But I can't say that I cared a whole lot for: "Young People", "Clap Your Hands", B & S (this particular song anyway). Not sure why I didn't like these songs, maybe because I feel whimpy, as opposed to bad ass cool, when I try to sing along to them in the car.

4. My Hero.

5. Dan, I couldn't even venture a prediction. although I do think you mentioned recently that you had rediscovered willie nelson?

6. Dan, I realize that you are one lucky mofo, nuff said.

7. no other comments, I just hope that I am worthy enough to keep getting new installments when they are ready.

thank you.
