Chris Larry was right. He was raving about this show from the beginning. Others have told me it was good too. Still I didn't think I'd like it. SHR watched the third episode and enjoyed it. I decided to give the fourth episode a shot. And I haven't looked back. I loved loved loved the episode I watched. Then NBC had a mini - marathon (Episodes 2-4) so I had DVRed those. I've watched them completely out of order but no matter, it just adds to the charm of the whole damn thing. The plotline jumps all over the place anyway (one of the characters can stop time, another can predict the future by drawing it while on heroin) so my watching it out of order (Episodes 4-2-5-3) hasn't hurt. I still haven't seen Episode 1 yet. I can't wait for Episode 6 tomorrow night. I can't quite believe how hooked I've become on this show. The show is utterly ridiculous. But it is supposed to be right? It is like a comic book. But then again, nothing is more ridiculous than Lost. Unlike that show, anyone can jump aboard and figure shit out easily. And even if you can't, you'll be so caught up in the action that it won't matter. If you have not started watching it yet, start now. Don't wait for the DVD's.
Elements of the look of Spider-Man and the genetic freak show of X-Men are the obvious comparisons. There are even elements of the cheerleader story line (pure evil lurks in the shadows of wholesome Americana) that reminds me of Twin Peaks. Best new show of the season - not that I've watched more than three, but trust me.

Is Balgavy watching this I wonder? I've tried but for me it's a little slow.
best new show of the season? wow. i'm still shocked you are liking it this much. i like it, but i'm too biased against anything starring "jess mariano" to deam it a favorite.
kfan - i am watching. i like it. i'm always left wanting more at the end of each episode. i can see how you find it a little slow. nothing really happens. i now accept (and almost embrace) that aspect of tv shows. LOST made it something that television is allowed to do.
youthlarge,
of the 3 shows i've seen this year, heroes is the best in my opinion.
marc and kfan,
i think plenty happens. especially compared to lost (which i still really really like) where it seems like nothing ever really happens in one episode.
in heroes, i'm left cheering at the end of each episode.
i swear i'm not getting paid by nbc.
Well met Mr. Listmaker--don't let the mouth breathers get you down.
Good to put a voice to the prose, or something along those lines.
I assume we shall all gather to quaff again when I return to the Boro of Kings in December.
I agree with Marc B. when the show ends you are left wanting more.
Just want to add that I raved about this show way back after the pilot episode
The scene in the autopsy room, the flying politician, Hiro on the subway...please I love it!!!!!!
I especially love Hiro and wonder if his friend goes back home or will he become Hiro's sidekick.
heroes, friday night lights and what's the third?
shite, i spelled deem wrong in my previous comment.
bill, of course.
for a yankees fan, you ain't half bad.
youthlarge,
i watched one episode of the nine.
df and I are also on board with Heroes. We watched episodes 1 and 2 on Friday night and have the rest on the DVR.
I do agree with YL though-- it's hard to take Jess seriously. Though I'm almost wishing he would rescue the GG.
Mission 8: Unexpected Endings: Seek those who have met unexpected endings.( Based on the last episode)
Where the sixth sense or ESP fails, we find ourselves meeting unexpected endings. Deaths, trials and mishaps. So we see in the show that D.L. Hawkins has met a somewhat regular and believable fate even for a super or anti-hero. That someone so close should betray is not all that uncommon. Even worse, the idea is not uncommon at all. We see that cheating can lead to unexpected consequence at least in the comic tv realm. For Hiro, it must be difficult to come to terms with that despite his power to stop time; he is not immune to unexpected endings. There's always a wrench in the puzzle, something that holds us back; something that blinds us... More on the blog.. http://therealheroes.blogspot.com/
planbreaker, i can't believe i'm saying this, but GG is done. can't be rescued. i'll watch out the rest of this season, but it's over. last week's episode was embarassingly terrible.
Glad you like it, its a fun, campy serial that doesnt take itself to seriously which is a plus!
On to GG....HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! Such an embaressment....last week was insulting...and that horendous "girl talk" roundtable they have is so dumb......
i know i'm late on this.. but i'm gonna be a hater. it's a bad show. it's empty. it has no real development and relies upon basic soap opera formulas to elicit an emotional reaction without any actual story. lots of dramatic framing, music cues, deep meaningful looks, etc. without any actual substance. an episode ends and i feel like i've wasted my time, another hour gone.
lachima,
is it formulaic? yes. are the characters versions of characters that could have been cut and pasted from other shows? yes. does it challenge you? make you think? even a little? no, not really. that being said, it does what it does do well. it is an interesting show that presents a minstrel show of silly superheroes for 60 minutes. i don't know if it's my ever lowering expectations, or the general quality of what's out there, or just the mood i'm in while watching it, but it works. it definitely goes over the top with burying them in pain from time to time (the branch to the neck, the fighting with the wife), but fuck it, the gag about the cheerleader never being able to die is a great one. and hiro is great. and the kid is wonderful. the show would be a disaster w/o hiro. yes, it's cookie cutter show in pulling the heartstrings, but it's better than most. it tries to do too much. thinned out, quieted out, slowed down it would be a much better show. but i'll watch it again this monday and i will laugh and enjoy myself. and i know hater lachima will too. or should.

And right after Lachima wieghs in the most Listmaker says new episode is bad.......hmmmmm power of suggestion much?
i don't really like the blonde character who kills everybody. she was in it way too much this past episode.
