Two Sentence Reviews of a Few TV Shows

And only a few really bad run-on sentences --

The Wire
Still the best show on television. Love the new school plotline.

Weeds
Almost gave up on it halfway through Season 2 - the toe eating incident was almost the end for me. But then it rebounded at the end and I will, at least, start Season 3.

Heroes
Yes it is silly but I dig it. Alex J and KFan are haters and that is fine with me.

Gilmore Girls
I’m finished with this show. However, I still make sure I’m somewhere in the vicinity when SHR watches it.

Friday Night Lights
I really like it when it sticks to the football and the town dynamic. I don’t like it so much when it becomes a teen soap opera.

Lost
Why kill off characters I like and add new dumb ones who figure out stuff that Locke and Sayid can’t? Who cares when the last five minutes last week are so damn good?

Project Runway
I began to lose interest by the middle of Season 3. But I’ll still be there for Season 4.

The Office
I like that Jim is in a different office so far this year. For the most part, the show still is as fresh and funny as ever.

Battlestar Galactica
SHR and I have just started watching this on DVD and we are almost halfway through the first season. Some of it is great, some of it isn’t but I’m confident that once this show fully hits its stride, it will kick ass.

Other recent writing on televsion:
Balgavy
J. Edward Keyes on the death of Gilmore.

danny,

the wire totally has me on pins and needles. I can't wait for each new week's episode, but at the same time it's winding down, which makes me sad. At least we know there will be a 5th and final season and I've read that McNutty will be back in season 5 - not that I'm one to complain about the main protagonist's absence in this season - seriously I'm not. In the same interview with David Simon I also read that it is possible that some characters from season 2 could reappear in season 5, that would be cool too. IMO, The Wire is in a league all by itself. The only other show on your list that I watch is The Office, which I also absolutely love. I've read all kinds of flattering and remarkable things about BSG, but I haven't tried to watch it - just can't see myself getting into it. It is on my radar though and I may give it a shot on DVD over the summer, as well as Weeds.

Maybe Mitch can start writing more about the Wire? would love to have a place to discuss the show some more.

One more episode like tonight's and I'm joining Alex and kfan. HEROES better pick things up fast.

I am not a hater, I am a non-convert. I watched it last night and there were some parts that I enjoyed and some I didn't, but I was still there, watching it, trying to figure out why I can't taste the Kool-Aid.

You know what is an awful show, is Studio 60. Oh my god. They can't cancel that fast enough.

After 6 hours of heroes, I'm done for good. (That equates to 3 1/3 watchings of Little Miss Sunshine, Listhater). As for Studio 60 - ugh. I cannot believe how much we are supposed to feel and fall for these empty characters and their struggles to make a stupid comedy show. Making us feel for characters that martyr themselves for the greater good might work when they are working in the white house, and writing treaties and all that crap - but that same dynamic fails badly when they are wrestling with bad jokes and neilson ratings. i feel like it's some schlamme/sorkin love letter to each other. OH, how the mighty rock of creatively weighs heavy on their poor shoulders, we must celebrate them. they are making a show about show business, but the most interesting thing about the characters is that they WORK in show business. and that is a huge oversite.

phew. i like this hating thing.

weeds - i just watched the first 3 episodes of season one and couldn't believe how bad it was. Nasty just to be nasty. Unfunny where it strained desperately to be funny. Who could give a shit about any of the characters on this lame and badly written show? elizabeth perkins is the devil.

gilmore girls - i was done last season but it's still a habit for some in the house and i caught the first few this season and remembered why i bailed last year. i hate everyone on this show except for paris. luke and sukie, who i once loved dearly, are horrendous as is lorelei and the fact that she makes anytime at all for chris, the most boring man alove, just how lame she is and has always been. i hate hate hate this show now and it makes me feel dirty that i once gave it the time of day.

the office - best season so far. all my hatred of everything else turns to pure love when thursday night comes around. i was apprehensive about where that kiss would lead but by banishing jim they renewed my interest in the love plotline while not allowing ot to overtake the other madness going on. the hr guy is battling stanley for my current favorite.

I am over hating Heros haters who hated since day one...I get u don't dig and I can groove with that...but Marc and the new fangled haters... what has changed? Last nights episode was the same as all the rest. It could use a little Lost ramping up of action in the final 10 minutes though....

Office is off the hook always, the Dwali episode was brilliance, especially since I work with like 16 Hindus.

BSG please, no Starbuck, no Chris Larry

Gilmore Girls is D-E-A-D............

Dan, I agree with you on Weeds....almost unwatchable but then picked up over the end....Zooey always perks my interest!

Hater Larry
