I Swear We Did More In Austin Than Go to the LBJ Museum!

For example, we ate some food.
And some more and even more.

LBJ Library - The only free Presidential Library - just as LBJ wanted it because he was a man of the people.

SHR and I both loved it. It was our first trip to one of these but we did drive by the Clinton one late at night on the drive from Memphis.

They don't make buttons like this anymore. What the hell does this button even mean?
The belt that George Foreman donated. LBJ made quite an impression on him when they met. Foreman gave Johnson credit for helping him make something of himself because of the social program (Job Corps) that Johnson created. Johnson promised Foreman that one day he would win the Heavyweight belt. On the night that Foreman won it, Johnson died. Foreman always regretted that Johnson didn't get to read about Foreman's triumph in the papers the next day.
The teleprompter tape that LBJ read from when he announced that he wouldn't run for President in '68.
Some of the pens that LBJ used to sign his many bills into law.
And the bizarre. An animontric LBJ.

Check out the movies. I love how into it the woman near me was. Movie 1 & Movie 2

We visited just a few days before Lady Bird died.
The Oval Office replica. We were told that it is 7/8 the size of the real office. Not sure why it isn't 8/8 size.
Truman had his "The Buck Stops Here" desk piece. LBJ had a running guy making a phone call.
Lady Bird's National League pass. Eat your heart out Mitch!
I'm sure SHR will write about this soon. Check out all that meat!
Storm time
And then we drove to Houston where I completed my ballpark journey.
We flew back to New York the next day.

I think creating a full scale replica of the oval office might be illegal. Just like how you can't make fake money that actually looks like real money.

The LBJ Presidential Library is in my museum Top 10. Maybe. Well at least the top ten in gift shops.

ohmygawd!
I always knew it would be the most amazing place ever but your entry has made me realise my big failing. In five years in the US i never made it to the museum (we just call it 'the museum' in our family)
On the bright side we can plan a big reunion visit when Hen is about 10!
