Two TV Thoughts

1. Why does HBO broadcast the "previously on" scenes of The Wire in widescreen when the show is shot and broadcast in standard format?

2. I've always thought that HBO aims to be a bit more cinematic with their shows than Showtime does. Showtime strives to make edgier TV while HBO strives to make filmlike series that happen to be on TV. Or something like that. Hence the "It's not TV, it's HBO" tagline.

So with that in mind, I'd say AMC's Mad Men would have fit well on HBO. The new Breaking Bad would fit well on Showtime. I will not be watching the second episode.

breaking bad. there's been one episode so far. loved all of the episodes of mad men - was on in 2007. i highly suggest watching the repeats that just started this week.

yeah, HBO really dropped the ball on Mad Men. They should have been all over that considering the Sopranos ties.

Oh well, doesn't really matter to me. I don't know if the show could have been any better if it was on HBO. I loved it too.

I've read Simon say before that because the option to broadcast in HD/widescreen wasn't available until they started S3 that he didn't want to make the switch in the middle of the show's run.

I don't know...

i don't have a problem with the show not being in hd. i just don't understand why the scenes they show before the show are in hd - all stretched out. very odd.

Yes. I enjoyed it. I've always liked the dad from "Malcolm in the Middle."
