Labor Day Weekend, Part 1

The arrival of Double Trouble really cut into our vacationing this summer! No matter, there was Labor Day weekend to catch up on the fun!

Friday

The High Line

No naked tourists at the Standard Hotel during our visit.

Otis thinks that the pre-gentrification of the High Line was much cooler.

Sam, on the other hand, loved it. He's a big fan of creating public spaces out of abandoned old structures.

I love how the train tracks are incorporated into the space.

I would love to see a movie here.

On the walk back to the subway, we passed the Maritime Hotel.

There was a window washer visible in the upper right hand corner two seconds before I took this picture. I was so close to getting the picture I really wanted. Still - a decent enough shot.

We came home for a few minutes and then headed back out for a Cyclones game where we met up with many people including Elliott. But more on that later.

How can a park, or a train track for that matter, be gentrified?

We went Monday afternoon. It was real cool, I thought, although there seemed to be parts where the walkway was super-narrow for no apparent reason. Looking forward to going back in the winter when maybe there aren't quite so many folk there.

just consulted with otis.

he says that he heard that before he was born, that you could sneak up there and be by yourself among the crack vials and weeds. he thinks that sounds cool.
