I was offered two jobs on Friday in the city. One was far away. I'd have to drive to it. One was much closer - just a few stops away in lower Manhattan. The far away one was to teach a grade that I have more interest in. The closer one assured me that I can move up a grade when there is an opening.
The far away one offered A LOT more money. But then we'd have to leave Brooklyn. We didn't want to do that. The closer school offers a great financial package for when Double Trouble is ready to attend.
The closer school is a much better fit politically, culturally, and educationally for me.
The closer school also just hired one of my all time favorite colleagues at my old school. The closer school also employs my cousin as an art teacher. The closer school apparently has an incredible lunch menu - free for teachers.
I went with the closer school. It feels nice to be done with the search and to have landed at such a great school.
A great school that once housed this young man:
